What is Rotary? Rotary International is a worldwide organisation of over 1.25 million members in over 200 countries and territories. The members join local clubs which are grouped into Districts. The island of Ireland comprises Rotary International District 1160.

Who are the Rotarians? Rotarians are men and women of all ages drawn from the business, professional and community sectors and representative of as many jobs and professions as possible in their community. Examples include builders, plumbers, architects, engineers, teachers, doctors, clergy, retailers, publicans, bankers, accountants, lawyers, government employees, community workers and people retired from these roles. The only limiting factor is the ability to be available to attend regular meetings and give some extra time.

Why do they join Rotary? Rotarians may give different answers, but the main reasons are the opportunity for fellowship and the ability to perform service in their local communities and worldwide.

How do I join? Membership is by invitation but if you would be interested in joining, please e-mail info@londonderryrotary.org or seek the location of your nearest club by accessing www.rotary.ie and clicking on "Clubs".

The Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the idea of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

1. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

2. High ethical standards in business and profession; the recognition of worthiness of all useful occupation; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

3. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life.

4. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The Rotarian's 4-Way Test

of the things we think, say, or do:

1. Is it the Truth?

2. Is it Fair to all concerned?

3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?

4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

The Rotary Motto is:
