Thursday 25th November 2010 - Quiz Night Fundraiser & Social Evening at the City of Derry Rugby Football Club.

Rotary raise funds for Women’s Aid.

Rotary’s newest female members have raised welcome funds for Women’s Aid to buy presents for their children’s Christmas party. Julie Pollock, Helen McDonnell and Sabine Lebrizoual just joined Rotary in October but jumped at the chance to organise a Quiz Night in City of Derry Rugby Club and get involved in organising their first Rotary event.

Helen McDonnell commented ‘I have organised fundraising events before but was amazed at the people power of Rotary in getting teams rallied for the event. It was relatively easy to organise and all down to the support from Rotarians their family and friends in getting teams and making it a great success.’

The girls decided that the proceeds would go to Women’s Aid in the build up to Christmas to help support the many children who have left their homes with their mother and who use the services of this dedicated Charity.

‘Often women and their children have to leave their homes with just the clothes on their back, so we wanted to help make their Christmas a bit brighter by raising funds for their Christmas party and presents for the children’ said Julie Pollock.

These three local businesswomen decided to join Rotary as they wanted to give something back to the community.
Sabine commented, ‘Rotary has given us a vehicle to help put something back to the community, meet likeminded people and focus on those less fortunate than ourselves.’
