News and Events:

June 2002: The AGM was held along with a delicious meal at St. Johns Restaurant in Fahan. President Dorothy handed over the chain of office to incoming President Sheila McGrane. Sheila expressed the honour she felt at our confidence in her and looked forward to our full support and encouragement throughout the year. Joan McKay, Club Secretary gave a full report on the various meetings. Committee members Veda Shaw, Emerald Nelson and Daphne McCartney also gave reports.

Sept 2002: Our first meeting of a new season was well attended with a talk by Bridie Timmins from U3A (University of the Third Age) and of Ageing Well. As well as informing us about U3A, Bridie recited a few poems referring to the "third age" which were very amusing. A little chat over a light buffet concluded an enjoyable evening.

October 2002: Following the business part of the evening David Butterfield demonstrated the Chinese martial art of T'ai Chi. Despite the odd creaking of bones and loss of balance this was a most relaxing and enjoyable experience. The sales of books for the book box proved popular. Veda Shaw provided boxes for donations to: Unicef (to eliminate maternal and neo-natal tetanus by 2003. £1 saves a life); Wateraid (people are also encouraged to click on the web site www.ribi-wateraid.org which automatically makes a donation) and Hamelin Churchill Childbirth Injuries Fund (donations of used tights/stockings).

On 12th October a very successful fund raising coffee morning was held at Margaret McFarland's home, which raised a substantial sum for the Meningitis Trust. Photograph

Nov 2002: Following a delicious light supper at the White Horse Hotel the meeting took on the form of a "hands-on work night" led by Daphne McCartney when everyone made a Christmas arrangement for a dinner table. Daphne was presented with a rhododendrum plant for her woodland garden.

Dec 2002: A very enjoyable Christmas party took place at the home of President Sheila McGrane. Fine food and wine followed by "charades" participated in by all Inner Wheel members made it an occasion to remember. Photographs - click here

Jan 2003: Joan Gault hosted the January meeting at her house and organised a quiz on our knowledge of chocolate which set the tone for a very friendly evening

Feb 2003: Jill Huey hosted the February meeting and, in contrast to our Chocolate quiz evening, Jill's daughter, Claire, gave an informative talk on "Rosemary Conley" healthy eating and keeping fit. At both January and February meetings, members brought along copies of their favourite recipes. A small charge for each recipe helped to raise money for the charity account. Collection of used stamps, old mobile phones, used tights and books took place.

March 2003: The White Horse Hotel was the venue for a very welcome visit from District Chairman Mary Berwick. In her address Mary spoke of how she became involved with Inner Wheel and how much being a member meant to her. Mary then welcomed new member Sylvia Allen-Hamilton to Inner Wheel. Helen proposed a vote of thanks and presented Mary with a shrub to mark the occasion.

April 2003: An "Overseas Evening" took place at Vida Shaw's house on 7th April. Vida produced delicious home-made quiches and trimmings. Along with a glass of wine and friendly chat, a substantial sum was raised for UNICEF for the scheme to eliminate maternal and neo-natal tetanus by 2005. Vida also sold a large number of books from her family bookcase and the proceeds also went to UNICEF.
