Heat or Eat February 2010

Projects > Christmas Projects

This was a new scheme for our club introduced as a result of both the challenging economic times and the cold weather snap experienced at the start of 2010 which forced many families to choose between heating their homes or eating.

This problem had been highlighted in the local media and in response the Rotary Club of Londonderry decided to assist by launching a fuel token scheme to help those families caught in this position in the local area. The club donated 400 fuel tokens which were distributed by the Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul.

Each token could be exchanged for either coal, oil or gas at one of four appointed fuel retailers. Our club was pleased that this scheme helped those families in our own area who were affected at a time of real need.
