In what he regarded as one of the most rewarding outings of his presidential year, President Werner Scheel presented prizes at the Primary Schools' Chess Champions held at Rosemount Primary School. Ten schools each entered teams of ten pupils in the competition.

Rotary has been encouraging chess in schools as a means of developing young students and promoting interaction between them. Our club has been supporting the local championship for several years and President Werner has expressed his own enthusiasm for ongoing support.
