Our Club Banner comprises the Rotary International Wheel, an old plan of the old walled city of Londonderry, and the shield and motto from the city Arms.

The Walls were built by the London Guilds in the first quarter of the 17th Century, following the Plantation of Ulster. They became most famous during the Siege of Derry in 1689 when supporters of King Willian III, held the city for many months against the Army of King James II. The inhabitants suffered considerable privation before the siege was broken by three ships led by the Mountjoy which breached a boom blockading the River Foyle,

The walls remain intact, and provide visitors with an excellent walk of about one mile (1.6Km), and panoramic views across the city.

The cross and sword depicted on the shield are from the arms of the City of London. The skeleton is not, as is often supposed, a commentary of the privations of the Siege of 1689. Rather, it represents a gentleman called Walter DeBurgo, who was walled-up in a castle and starved to death. The ruins of this castle, known as Greencastle, can be viewed in the village of the same name which lies about 25 miles to the North of the city, beyond Moville, in Co Donegal.

The motto of the city is Vita, Veritas, Victoria - Life, Truth and Victory.
